regeneration
Becoming Native
“We have lived our lives by the assumption that what was good for us would be good for the world.
We have been wrong.
We must change our lives so that it will be possible to live by the contrary assumption, that what is good for the world will be good for us. And that requires that we make the effort to know the world and learn what is good for it.”
― Wendell Berry, The Long-Legged House
Sustainable VS. Regenerative
Current biological, cultural and economic conditions are not sustainable and have not been for decades. Sustainability only becomes a viable goal once these conditions support a healthy, thriving planet. Healing our planet urgently depends on finding ways to encourage regeneration. Fortunately, the living world is perfectly designed to regenerate, We must learn to turn our degenerative extraction into regenerative care. For example, regenerating our farmland topsoil back to health would sequester enough carbon to offset the effects of climate change. Our water systems and air quality would drastically improve along with the quality of our food. Our blog has more information on the promise of healthy soil.
